Position Description
Information Technology Services (IT Services) provides high-touch, high-quality customer service to our community of faculty, staff, and students. We are looking for a results-oriented, service-focused technician with a curious mind, innovative spirit, and a dedication to fostering inclusive excellence. The Systems Engineer 2 position plays a critical role in developing, maintaining, and supporting the university's technical infrastructure of cloud services, hardware, and system software, via Microsoft Intune, Apporto virtual computer lab services, and other tools to support endpoint management. This position will also work with other campus departments, such as Public Safety, to streamline their various systems and endpoints. This position is eligible for hybrid work with at least one day on campus per week.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain the Microsoft Intune environment to support endpoint management, device enrollment, application deployment, and security policy enforcement on various platforms including Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android.
- Support our Apporto Virtual Desktop instances to deliver course-specific applications for our students and faculty.
- Provide delivery support for production software and services on physical and virtualized endpoints.
- Engage in vendor management when needed to provide seamless service for applications.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors to resolve short-term issues and align long-term goals.
- Participate in root cause analysis, debugging, support review, post-incident analysis, and corrective action planning before, during, and after security incidents and service interruptions.
- Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, processes, and procedures to assist with ticket triage for our Service Desk team and promote end user self-service.
- Collaborate with our Information Security team to identify and mitigate endpoint security risks, vulnerabilities, and compliance gaps.
- Collaborate with other campus departments to understand their needs, provide maintenance, support, and recommendations for technology solutions.
- Create reporting standards to optimize and tune system performance as appropriate.
- Write scripts and utilize available tools that drive automation for operational efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Advanced or Senior level role. Works under minimal supervision.
Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity, and the ability to live out the university's mission, vision, and values.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in system engineering, with a focus on Intune management and administration.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Intune, including configuration profiles, compliance policies, app deployment, and conditional access.
- Strong knowledge of application packaging.
- Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, ZSH, Bash, or Python.
- Experience in maintaining virtualization solutions.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking, including DNS, DHCP, routing, and firewalling.
- Experience with Windows 10/11, MacOS 11+, and Windows Server 2016 - current.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
- Experience working in higher education or similar industry or organization.
- Understanding of security hardening best practices.
- Experience in a hybrid AD environment.
- Experience with process improvement methods and tools.
- Experience with project management strategies.

Compensation at a Glance
Salary Range: $90,000 - $98,000
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
